Guided Walk in Wamboin Crown Reserve

On Saturday 27 June, the Friends of Wamboin Crown Reserve are holding a guided walk we are calling the Wamboin Crown Reserve Twilight Tour!

We’ll kick things off at 3:30 pm at the Wamboin Community Hall, 112 Bingley Way, where we’ll car pool to the entrance of the Wamboin Crown Reserve. From there, we’ll hike 2 km to the top of Poppet Hill, arriving just in time to catch the sunset at 5:00 pm. As the night falls, we’ll view the evening panorama of Canberra’s city lights before heading back to our cars. On the way back, we’ll take in some of Wamboin’s nightlife via the eye-shine of possums, wombats, kangaroos and wallabies.

To make the most of the walk, please bring a torch with fresh batteries, warm clothes (it’ll be chilly out there) and sturdy shoes. Just a heads-up: the walk is considered moderate to hard with steep hills and eroded trails, and since it’s nighttime, there’s always a chance someone might take a tumble. If you’re not in good shape, this walk might not be the best fit for you.

We’re keeping the group size to 15, so please sign up early to avoid missing out— click here to register (it's free).

The Great Wamboin Curry Night

At the Wamboin Community Hall. Please arrive around 7.00 pm, for dinner from 7.30 pm.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to overwhelming interest in recent years, bookings are essential. Space is strictly limited (unless you're happy to sit outside...), so book early to avoid disappointment!

The Curry Night will follow the very successful format set in place many years ago by Dave Hubbard. There is a gold coin donation requested to offset the hire of the Hall, tables and chairs.

All diners bring along a prepared (curry) dish to share with the assembled masses. The dishes are displayed with descriptive labels, including the dish name and its heat intensity (mild, medium, hot), and are then on offer to all curry munchers from 7.30pm.

BYO suitable beverage to wash it down, as well as your own side dishes, nibbles, plates and cutlery.

Prizes will be awarded to the 3 best dishes selected by a secret (no bribes) judge.

For bookings or more information, contact Dave Hubbard on 6238 3308 or at dave.hubbard@bigpond.com.
